The Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan, Italy, hosts the most opulent hotel suite in the world, according to this year’s World Travel Awards. The Katara Suite, which has retained its title as the World’s Leading Hotel Suite for a second year, is also the grandest when it comes to scale. At 11,000 square feet it is the largest hotel suite in Italy. The sumptuous accommodation sleeps up to eight people, and is perfect for diplomats. It includes luxuries you might expect – such as a private terrace and opulent bedrooms – as well as some surprising bonuses, like bulletproof windows and a private spa.

The hotel suite is designed with high-profile travelers in mind, and even includes a conference room, bulletproof windows and a direct “diplomatic entrance” with lift for heads of state or high-profile celebrities who might be staying there. The suite’s discreet security features, some of which are not even spoken of to outsiders, make it a good option for diplomats and high-level delegations. There are four bedrooms in total, including two children’s bedrooms, which contain chandeliers made with Murano glass. The Katara Suite contains two terraces — one with a living and dining area, and another with a “solarium” which is perfect for sunbathing in the middle of the city. A 10-seat dining table is the ideal way to use the 24-hour butler service included in the suite rate. It even has its own private Padoga spa room, which includes a hot tub under a dome, a Turkish bath and a sauna. There is also an option to book the neighboring Princess Suite, which joins onto the Katara, adding an extra bedroom, bathroom, and living room.
